Vacancy: Maintenance Manager (Plastic Manufacturing)
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Maintenance Manager to join our polymer compounding facility. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal equipment performance, reliability, and overall plant maintenance, while leading a small maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance of all machinery, including extruders and associated equipment
- Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and fault-finding
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Maintain buildings, plant infrastructure, and utilities (compressed air, cooling, electrical systems)
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping and equipment cleanliness
- Plan and schedule maintenance to minimize downtime
- Manage breakdowns and ensure rapid resolution
- Participate in standby duties and attend after-hours/weekend callouts
- Maintain stock levels of critical spares and consumables
- Monitor usage trends and prevent stock shortages
- Liaise with suppliers for sourcing and procurement
- Source and evaluate contractor quotations
- Supervise contractor work on-site
- Drive maintenance upgrades and improvement projects
- Maintain accurate maintenance records (Excel-based)
- Track equipment performance and downtime
- Generate reports to support continuous improvement
- Supervise and support maintenance team
- Allocate tasks and manage workloads
- Ensure training, compliance, and adherence to safety standards
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company policies
- Identify risks and implement mitigation measures
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture
Minimum Requirements
- NTC 3 or equivalent technical qualifications
- Sound knowledge of: Electrical regulations (SANS 10142) & Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics preferred)
- Strong understanding of extrusion equipment and production processes
- Demonstrated supervisory/management experience
- Computer literacy: Intermediate MS Excel, Data capturing and basic systems usage
- Good communication and numerical skills
- Valid driver’s licence
- Forklift licence (advantageous)
