Job Summary
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Gr. 12 (with Mathematics)
• Trade Certificate as a Fitter and Turner or Maintenance Fitter i.e. red seal certificate
• Working at Heights certification (preferred)
• Mine Red Seal preferred
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the mining industry
• Experience in fitting & turning, sheave wheel fitting/maintenance
• Regulatory inspections at customers
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Verbal and written Communication skills in English as a minimum. Afrikaans an advantage
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Excellent Attention to Detail
• Strong numeracy skills
• Be able to off site, work shifts and overtime
• Dealing with Customers
• Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Strip sheave wheels
• Assemble sheave wheels on the ground and in the headgear at customer site and at KEW
• Disassemble, repair and maintain sheave wheels and bearing housings
• Client liaison
• Inspection of installed equipment to regulatory requirements
• Work under ground
• Work at heights
• Laser align sheave wheels (big to small)
• Re-groove sheave wheels & ‘koepie’ drums
• Strip bearing housings, check bearing clearances and re-assemble bearing housings
• Replace inserts in the sheave wheels at customer site and KEW
• Measure Sheave profiles
• Operate lathes & milling machines
• Work at customer site and outside of South Africa
• Work in accordance with HR, Quality and SHE Procedures
• Carry out instructions/duties, within reason, as instructed by Supervisor
