Job Overview
The Production Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules to ensure efficient manufacturing operations. This role ensures alignment between production capacity, customer demand, and material availability while driving on-time delivery and continuous improvement within planning processes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or Operational Management
Experience:
- 3–5 years’ experience in a production planning role within a manufacturing environment
- Experience in assembly manufacturing
- Exposure to extrusion processes (advantageous)
Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (Syspro / Sage preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Understanding of Bill of Materials (BOMs), routing, and production lead times
- Knowledge of inventory control and MRP planning principles
- Exposure to lean manufacturing / continuous improvement methodologies (advantageous)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production plans
- Coordinate and align production activities across all departments
- Ensure production schedules meet customer demand, forecasts, and sales orders
- Monitor and ensure availability of raw materials and components
- Optimize machine utilization and workforce allocation
- Manage and control Work-in-Progress (WIP)
- Collaborate closely with procurement, warehouse, production, and quality teams
- Track production performance against plan and identify risks or delays
- Drive On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery through effective planning
- Maintain accurate ERP system data, including:
- Production orders
- BOMs
- Lead times
- Improve production sequencing to reduce downtime and changeovers
- Prepare and present daily and weekly production reports
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
