The SA Steelworks Division has a position for a, committed, hardworking and motivated Machine Shop Assistant at our SA Steelworks plant in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our senior machinists by ensuring the shop floor remains organized, materials and tools are neatly packed away and assisting artisans with jobs.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Material Handling: Receive, mark, and prep raw materials for machining.
• Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe work area, including sweeping and clearing metal chips/ coolant from Machine shop floor.
• Post-Processing: Deburr, polish, clean and pack finished parts before it is issued to the relevant department.
• Assisting artisans: Marking off, drill holes, etc.
Applicants must have the following qualifying experience
• Ability to stand for long shifts and lift up to 25kg.
• Basic familiarity with hand tools and measuring equipment like tape measures - callipers is a plus.
• Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Matric certificate or equivalent, technical vocational training is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work under challenging conditions
• In good health, physically fit
