Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Assembly Department Manager to lead a high-performing manufacturing assembly team within a fast-paced production environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring consistent production output while leading a large frontline team.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of 40+ assembly staff
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and skills development
- Manage attendance, discipline, and workforce planning
Production & Operations Management
- Oversee daily assembly line operations to meet production targets
- Implement and maintain production tracking systems (KPIs, dashboards, visual management)
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks quickly and effectively
- Ensure ERP systems are accurately updated with production data
Process Optimisation
- Balance assembly lines to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Drive Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement)
- Improve throughput, reduce downtime, and optimise workflows
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain high-quality standards and ensure first-time-right production targets
- Conduct regular quality inspections and implement corrective actions
- Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and OHS regulations
- Maintain clean, safe, and organised workstations
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or assembly environment
- Proven ability to manage large teams (30–50+ employees)
- National Diploma or Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (5S, Kaizen, line balancing)
- Experience with ERP systems and production tracking tools
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement
