Job Summary
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an existing logistics function and establish it as a new department within the business. You’ll bring the flights and road-transfer operation into the organisation, putting the structure, processes and commercial focus in place to develop it into a profitable, well-run operation. Because guest travel doesn’t stop at 5pm, the role carries genuine operational responsibility outside of standard working hours, including weekends when required. It’s ideally suited to someone who thrives on ownership, enjoys creating structure and is comfortable being “on” when the business needs them.
Core Criteria:
- 5-7 years' experience in a similar logistics or travel operations role, ideally with Tour Operators, DMCs, Travel Agents, or suppliers
- Valid driver's licence, reliable vehicle, and valid passport
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required
- Comfortable working a Sunday to Friday week with remote weekend coverage (open to discussion)
- Strategic, analytical, and data-driven approach to decision-making
- Strong budgeting, negotiation, and supplier management skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with excellent numeracy
- Recognised qualification advantageous
- Self-motivated, target-driven, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Aviation or flight sales experience beneficial
Core Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of an existing flights and road-transfer function and manage a structured handover of systems, suppliers, and operational knowledge
- Establish the Logistics Department for the business from the ground up, including its systems, processes, and standard operating procedures
- Build and manage a team, defining roles, shifts, and performance targets
- Oversee flight bookings, airline and travel-partner relationships, and disruption management
- Manage the road-transfer network, including drivers, vehicles, and transport suppliers
- Own the commercial performance of the department: pricing, margins, budgets, and profitability reporting
- Negotiate and manage supplier rates, terms, and service levels
- Act as the key liaison between logistics and internal teams (Reservations, Operations, Finance) and properties
- Set and maintain guest-service standards across transfers and flight coordination
- Provide after-hours escalation support for urgent travel issues according to a roster
On Offer:
- Office-based in the Durban area
- Salary: Market related
- Days/Hours: Sunday to Friday, 7am to 3pm (open to discussion)
- In-office Monday to Friday; Saturdays and Sundays can be worked remotely
- Opportunity to bring the logistics function into the business within an established, conservation-focused hospitality group
