A leading sugar manufacturing operation in Uganda is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Stores Manager to oversee procurement, inventory, and supply chain operations at an industrial scale. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for a candidate with strong engineering credentials, ERP experience, and strategic supply chain expertise.

About the Role
As Stores Manager, you will own the planning, management, and optimisation of all stores and material flows within a high-volume sugar production environment. You will lead procurement, supervise inventory control, and oversee distribution to multiple plant and production areas, ensuring seamless operations in a fast-paced industrial setting.

Responsibilities
Procurement & Inventory Management
- Lead procurement and strategic sourcing of spare parts, consumables, and critical repair items.
- Forecast demand and maintain optimal stock levels to support uninterrupted plant operations.
- Plan, schedule, and implement preventive maintenance supply plans aligned with production needs.
- Manage pricing and supply agreements to balance cost-efficiency with availability.
Supply Chain & ERP Oversight
- Oversee end-to-end materials flow within the plant and across satellite operations.
- Ensure accurate inventory records, transparency of transaction records, and continuity of supply.
- Manage perpetual inventory systems, periodic audits, and reconcile stock discrepancies.
- Extract consumption and movement data for decision support reporting.
- Be the key liaison for SAP ERP usage in materials management modules.
Team Leadership & Process Execution
- Lead and mentor a team of stores personnel – from storekeepers to junior controllers.
- Drive continuous improvement in warehouse layout, storage practices, and stock control procedures.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between stores, engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure strict adherence to internal audit controls, traceability processes, and procedural integrity.
- Uphold safety, environment, and quality standards inline with ISO and internal governance frameworks.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Supply Chain, Materials Management, or ERP-specific certifications are advantageous.
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role within stores, procurement, or materials management.
- Prior exposure to heavy-industry or manufacturing environment—preferably in agro-industry or sugar processing.
Technical Skills
- Deep SAP ERP experience—preferably in MM (Materials Management) and related modules.
- Strong working knowledge of spare parts classification and inventory control methods.
- Ability to extract performance metrics and usage data from ERP systems.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead a stores team and coordinate seamlessly with maintenance and operations departments.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to train staff and ensure procedural efficiency.
