A luxury safari lodge in the Eastern Cape is seeking a passionate and creative Sous Chef to join its culinary team in delivering an exceptional dining experience within a world-class setting. The Role Working closely alongside the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will assist in leading the kitchen operation, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene, and service delivery. This role requires a hands-on chef who leads by example and remains calm and organised in a fast-paced luxury lodge environment. Key Responsibilities • Assist in managing the daily kitchen operation • Ensure consistently high standards of food preparation and presentation • Support menu planning, creativity, and seasonal menu development • Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff • Maintain excellent hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety standards • Assist with stock control, ordering, and kitchen administration • Ensure smooth service during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events • Work closely with front-of-house and lodge management teams to enhance the guest experience • Assist in staff training and kitchen development initiatives • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-focused kitchen culture The Ideal Candidate • Previous Sous Chef experience within a luxury lodge, hotel, or fine dining environment is essential • Strong culinary skills with a passion for modern, beautifully presented cuisine • Calm under pressure with excellent organisational ability • Strong leadership and communication skills • Good understanding of stock control and kitchen administration • Excellent knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen health & safety standards • Passionate about hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences Package • Competitive salary dependent on experience • Live-in position • Meals and uniform provided • Opportunity to work within a prestigious luxury safari environment
