Job Summary
5* Game Lodge in the Pilanesberg is looking for a Sommelier to manage the wine program; curates the wine list ; and pair wines with food. You will work directly with guests to suggest wines ; decant bottles, and provide expert service; while also managing inventory ; training staff ; and maintaining knowledge of wine . Duties: Guiding guests through wine selections, suggesting pairings, and providing information on grape varieties and wine regions to enhance the dining experience. Curating and regularly updating the restaurant's wine list, including managing pricing and supplier relationships. Overseeing the storage, rotation, and inventory of wine, ensuring it is readily available and served properly. Educating service staff on wine knowledge, proper serving etiquette, and, in some cases, beer, spirits, and after-dinner cigars. Decanting wine, managing the glassware and tools, and keeping up with industry trends. Requirements: WSET Level 2 / 3 or higher, formal Sommeliers certification At least 1-5 years of experience in high-end, luxury, or fine-dining environments. Expert knowledge of wine, spirits, and, in some cases, cigars, with a strong grasp of regional specialties (e.g., South African wines). Mastery of wine service, including proper opening, decanting, and glass selection. Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with guests and recommending pairings. Ability to up-sell and maximize beverage revenue. Managing wine inventories, ordering, and menu planning. Team player, professional demeanour, and passion for hospitality.
