Key Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain an attractive, clean, and well-organised market stall.

Weekend Market Sales Representative - Elgin

At BÄCKEREI, our market representative is more than a salesperson. You are the face of our bakery and are fully responsible for running our market stall independently.

This is a one-person operation. You will manage everything from setting up the stall and serving customers to handling payments, maintaining stock, and closing at the end of the day.

We are looking for someone who is outgoing, sales-driven, organised, and trustworthy. Someone who enjoys engaging with people, takes initiative, and can confidently manage a busy market stall without constant supervision.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Experience & Sales

You are the face of BÄCKEREI at the market. Your role is to create a welcoming atmosphere while actively driving sales.

• Greet customers warmly and confidently.
  

• Learn our product range and explain what makes our traditional German sourdough products special.
  

• Actively recommend products and encourage additional purchases.
  

• Process transactions accurately using our POS system.
  

• Handle card payments responsibly (no cash)
  

• Package products neatly and professionally.
  

• Handle customer questions and minor concerns independently and professionally.
  

2. Independent Market Operations

You are responsible for the smooth operation of the entire stall throughout the day.

• Arrive punctually and have the stall fully set up before trading begins.
  

• Receive and check the bakery stock delivered to the market.
  

• Create an attractive, well-organised product display.
  

• Monitor stock availability, freshness, and presentation.
  

• Replenish displays throughout the day.
  

• Manage busy periods independently while maintaining friendly and efficient service.
  

• Keep track of packaging materials and other market supplies.
  

• Pack down the stall correctly and securely at the end of the day.
  

3. Cleanliness & Food Safety

Cleanliness is a continuous responsibility, not just an end-of-day task.

• Keep the stall, displays, equipment, and surrounding area clean and presentable.
  

• Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures.
  

• Maintain excellent personal hygiene.
  

• Handle and store bakery products correctly.
  

• Ensure products remain protected from contamination throughout the day.
  

4. Stock, Cash & Accountability

As the sole person operating the stall, you are trusted to manage company products, equipment, and payments responsibly.

• Follow all cash handling and POS procedures.
  

• Accurately record sales and payment transactions.
  

• Complete opening and closing stock counts.
  

• Record unsold products, damages, and wastage.
  

• Complete all required checklists and records honestly and accurately.
  

• Ensure all stock, cash, and equipment are accounted for at the end of each shift.
  

5. Independent Problem-Solving & Communication

We expect you to work independently and make sensible decisions without needing constant guidance.

• Take initiative and resolve routine issues independently.
  

• Follow established procedures and use good judgement.
  

• Communicate important information to management when necessary.
  

• Report urgent issues promptly, particularly those affecting customers, payments, safety, or operations.
  

• Provide an accurate end-of-day handover, including stock, sales, and any relevant incidents.
  

• Ask questions when genuinely unsure rather than making assumptions.

• Locally based - lives in Elgin or the surrounding area and has reliable transport.
  

• Available on weekends - including additional market days during peak season when required.
  

Previous market, retail, hospitality, or sales experience is an advantage. However, reliability, confidence, initiative, and a genuine willingness to learn are equally important.
