Junior Attorney - Trade, Customs and Excise
Our client, a reputable boutique law firm, seeks a Junior Attorney to join their International Trade, Customs and Excise Services team. This is a great opportunity to be part of a team providing expert legal advice on trade-related matters and supporting high-profile clients across a wide range of industries.
Main Responsibilities:
Play a pivotal role in assisting with the provision of expert legal advice to clients on Trade, Customs and Excise matters.
Conduct compliance reviews for clients involved in imports, exports and/or the manufacture of excisable goods.
Be involved in litigation and dispute resolution services in respect of Customs and Excise disputes with SARS (Customs).
Provide specialist tariff classification and customs or excise valuation advice.
Support or represent clients in SARS indirect tax audits and subsequent demands, trade remedies and tariff investigations.
Provide clients with insightful advice on Import and Export Agreements, SLAs, NDAs, etc.
Review a company's import/export activities and compile reports highlighting threats and opportunities.
Keep abreast of the international trade landscape and industries affected by tariff increases, for example.
Support clients in the areas of Customs and Excise, International Trade and WTO trade remedies.
Advise clients, including manufacturers and industry associations, on customs-related queries.
Assist clients with registration, licensing, accreditation, business-centric strategies, rebate applications, tariff classification, compliance and correspondence with government bodies (SARS and ITAC), as well as anti-dumping, countervailing, IP and brand matters.
Qualifications and Experience:
Newly Qualified Attorney / Candidate Attorney.
3 to 6 years' experience in legal practice.
Solid exposure to Trade, Customs and Excise.
