Job Summary
National Hotel Group requires an Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding Group assets, ensuring financial integrity, and optimizing operational efficiency across a national portfolio. Reporting to the Group Financial Director and Audit Committee, you will lead a risk-based audit strategy to maintain a robust control environment, mitigate financial leakages, and provide strategic counsel on internal controls within a high-volume, multi-site hospitality environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Strategic Internal Audit & Assurance Develop and implement a comprehensive 3-year rolling Internal Audit Plan and an annual risk-based operational plan. Lead the end-to-end audit cycle—including planning, scoping, fieldwork, and reporting—for all hotels, resorts, and head office functions. Ensure all audit activities align with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and South African auditing standards. Provide independent assurance and strategic counsel to the Board regarding the effectiveness of the control environment and governance frameworks. 2. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Maintain and update the Group Risk Register, facilitating regular risk assessment workshops with General Managers and Department Heads. Identify and monitor emerging risks specific to the hospitality sector, including cybersecurity, food safety, and legislative changes (POPIA, CPA, Liquor Acts). Act as a strategic advisor to the Executive Team, providing data-driven insights to mitigate high-impact operational and financial risks. 3. Ethics, Integrity & Loss Prevention Oversee the Group’s ethics and integrity programs, including the management of the independent whistle-blowing facility and fraud prevention strategy. Lead sensitive forensic reviews and investigations into financial irregularities, misappropriation of assets, or breaches of company policy. Utilize advanced Data Analytics to identify red flags and revenue leakages in high-volume areas such as Point of Sale (POS), Cash-up procedures, and Procurement. 4. Operational Compliance & Governance Assess the adequacy of controls surrounding Revenue Assurance, specifically within Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Conferencing. Audit the procurement and supply chain cycles to ensure Value for Money and prevent vendor-related risks or procurement irregularities. Monitor and verify compliance with health and safety protocols, liquor licenses, and labor laws across all properties nationally. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Audit Plan Execution: 100% completion of the approved Annual Audit Plan within the fiscal year. Remediation Efficiency: Percentage of identified control weaknesses resolved by management within the agreed-upon timeframe. Risk Profile Reduction: Measurable decrease in High and Critical risks on the Group Risk Register through effective mitigation strategies. Asset Protection: Documented reduction in unexplained stock losses and revenue discrepancies across F&B and Rooms divisions. Operational ROI: Identification of cost-saving opportunities or process inefficiencies with a clear financial impact report for the Board. Reporting Turnaround: Average time taken from the conclusion of fieldwork to the issuance of the final, signed-off report to the Audit Committee. Minimum Requirements: Qualifications: Degree in Internal Auditing, Accounting, or Risk Management preferred Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Chartered Accountant CA (SA) preferred. Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or a postgraduate qualification in Risk Management is highly advantageous. Experience: 5 - 6 years of professional experience in Internal Audit and Risk Management. Minimum of 3 years in a management/leadership capacity. Proven track record within the Hospitality, Retail, or FMCG sectors (managing high-volume cash, stock, and inventory environments). Demonstrable experience in conducting forensic investigations and reporting to Audit & Risk Committees at a Board level. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Internal Audit and Risk Management software (e.g., BarnOwl, TeamMate). Strong understanding of Property Management Systems (PMS) and Point of Sale (POS) integrations. Advanced capability in Data Analytics tools (PowerBI, ACL, or IDEA) for transaction monitoring. Expert knowledge of King IV Corporate Governance principles and South African regulatory frameworks.
