ead Chef – Luxury Safari Lodge – Tanzania Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to join a luxury safari lodge in Tanzania on a 2-year fixed-term contract. The Role The Head Chef will take overall responsibility for the kitchen operation and food product, ensuring consistently exceptional standards across guest and staff meals. The successful candidate will lead and develop the culinary team, create innovative seasonal menus, maintain excellent stock controls, and ensure an outstanding dining experience for guests. Key Responsibilities Take overall responsibility for the quality and standards of all guest and staff food. Implement and maintain high kitchen standards, including regular oversight of the staff kitchen and canteen. Lead; train, mentor and develop chefs and staff in training, supporting their growth and progression. Manage all departmental administration, including staff files, off-day schedules and hygiene standards. Create seasonal menus based on guest requirements, occupancy and available produce. Ensure food presentation consistently meets the lodge's luxury standards and culinary identity. Continuously develop and elevate the food product, dishes and overall guest dining experience. Maintain excellent stock control, ordering procedures and stock rotation. Ensure proactive maintenance and care of all kitchen equipment. Maintain excellent communication with the culinary team, Heads of Departments, Lodge Manager and suppliers. Ensure all food leaving the kitchen is checked by the Executive or Sous Chef. Interact with guests as much as possible, including meeting guests on arrival and building strong relationships throughout their stay. Invite and respond positively to guest feedback. Ensure the team is fully aware of all guest and staff dietary requirements and special requests. Encourage the exchange of ideas, feedback and knowledge within the culinary team. Maintain strong discipline and fair treatment within the department, leading by example as a role model for the wider lodge team. Key Requirements Formal culinary qualification. Minimum 2 years' management experience, ideally within a 5-star luxury operation. Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining excellent attention to detail. Passionate about food and delivering exceptional guest experiences. Strong knowledge of hospitality operations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, train and develop a culinary team. Creative approach to menu development and food presentation. Strong organisational and administrative skills. Good computer skills. Experience with stock control, ordering and kitchen administration.
