Job Summary
5* Game Lodge in Welgevonden is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all lodge infrastructure ; guest areas; staff facilities, vehicles and equipment is maintained to the highest standards of safety; functionality and presentation. This role is critical in preserving asset value ; supporting exceptional guest experiences and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards in a remote safari environment. Duties: Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Implement and manage a preventative maintenance programme for all lodge facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, staff accommodation, back-of-house areas, and utilities. Conduct regular inspections and promptly address maintenance issues to prevent asset deterioration. Carry out hands-on maintenance across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, and general repairs. Maintain generators, solar systems, water systems (boreholes, pumps, filtration), sewage systems, and firefighting equipment. Team Leadership & Supervision Supervise; train, and motivate the maintenance team to ensure productivity, accountability, and high workmanship standards. Allocate daily and weekly tasks, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed within agreed timelines. Enforce safety protocols and proper use of tools and equipment. Guest Experience & Lodge Presentation Ensure guest-facing areas are always maintained to luxury lodge standards. Respond promptly and discreetly to guest-related maintenance issues, minimising disruption. Work closely with Housekeeping and Front-of-House teams to identify and resolve room and public area defects. Health; Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to safari lodges. Maintain safety equipment, signage, and emergency systems in working order. Conduct risk assessments and report hazards immediately. Ensure safe storage and handling of tools, chemicals, and hazardous materials. Environmental & Sustainability Practices Support lodge sustainability initiatives, including water, power, and waste management. Ensure maintenance practices align with environmental policies and conservation principles. Requirements: Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a maintenance role, preferably within a safari lodge or remote hospitality environment. Proven supervisory or team leadership experience. Trade qualification (electrician, plumber, carpenter, or similar) advantageous. Basic knowledge of generators, and water treatment systems preferred. Valid driver’s licence required. Strong technical knowledge across general building maintenance disciplines. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently in a remote location. Good leadership, organisational, and planning skills. High attention to detail and pride in workmanship. Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally. Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
