Job Summary
Our client, a well-established organisation operating within the manufacturing industry, is seeking to employ an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to join their Health and Safety Department based in Heidelberg, Gauteng. Please note that this is a night shift position.
Requirements
- 5 years plus in Occupational Nursing
- Diploma in Nursing (General, Psychiatric and community) Midwifery
- Diploma in Clinical nursing science, Health assessment, Treatment and Care
- 2-year occupational health practitioner qualification as defined by the OHS Act 85 of 1993
- Diploma in Health Science and Health Service Management
- Course in Dispensing, Audiometry
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council
- Drivers licence
- Dispensing Licence
Working Hours (Night Shift Only)
- Monday – Thursday: 17h15 – 03h30
- Friday: 14h30 – 22h00
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Provision Medical Surveillance Services
- Conduct medicals for staff, pre- employment and annual medical checks
- Assist the doctor with medicals and weekly clinic visits
- Provide a baseline health status and determining fitness for duty
- Report and assist on all injuries on duty and occupational diseases to the compensation commissioner
- Conduct exit medicals
- Medical records should be recorded and signed off
- Ensure accurate documentation to enable logical weekly and monthly statistical analysis
- Compile stats according to the company requirement and stats
Determination of Health Control Measures
- Monitor work processes and health risk
- Evaluate occupational hygiene surveys as well as health trends and provide recommendations regarding the control of health and safety risk exposure
- Monitor compliance with recommendations on first aid and emergency preparedness procedures
Coordinating and Maintaining Health Services
- Compile and control health service budget
- Ensure a continuous supply and availability of supplies, equipment and medication
- Ensure compliance and incorporating relevant legislation into health service provision
- Compile and maintain database of medical records for employees
Provision of Primary Health Service, Coordinate Health Promotion Drives Including Awareness and Education
- Treat minor ailments and injuries and refer when necessary
- Provide care and support for certain diseases e.g HIV and Aids
- Monitor and control chronic conditions impacting workers ability to perform their duties
- Stabilise emergency case and refer
- Ensure health promotion is done in order to prevent disease and change behaviour
- Plan and implement wellness day programmes
- Provide awareness and education
- Do walk about with safety department
- Do inspections and write reports
