Job Summary
Job Purpose The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and orderliness in guest rooms, public areas, and designated spaces. The role ensures a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for guests or residents in accordance with established standards and procedures. Key Responsibilities Cleaning & Maintenance Clean guest rooms, bathrooms, public areas, corridors, and service areas to required standards. Make beds, replace linens, towels, and guest amenities. Dust; sweep, vacuum, mop, and disinfect surfaces. Empty bins and dispose of waste according to guidelines. Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards. Guest Service Ensure rooms are prepared for guest arrivals, including layout, amenities, and presentation. Respond to guest requests promptly and professionally. Maintain a friendly, positive, and professional attitude. Laundry Duties Launder; iron, and fold linens, towels, and personal items (if required). Sort and count laundry items and report shortages. Keep laundry room clean and organized. Stock & Inventory Control Replenish amenities, cleaning supplies, and linen trolleys. Notify supervisors of low stock levels or inventory needs. Handle equipment and chemicals safely and responsibly. Compliance & Safety Follow hygiene, health, and sanitation standards. Adhere to company policies and procedures. Use protective equipment where required. Qualifications Matric / Grade 12 (advantageous, but not always required). Housekeeping or hospitality training (advantageous). Experience 1–2 years housekeeping experience in a hotel, lodge, hospital, or similar environment. Experience in maintaining cleaning standards and handling cleaning equipment. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and methods. Understanding of hygiene and sanitation standards. Ability to follow checklists, schedules, and room standards.
