Our client owns a conservation property leased to an established private game reserve, with a commitment to protecting its ecological integrity and long-term sustainability. This live-in appointment offers the opportunity to oversee the daily management of the property, balancing habitat protection with the operational needs of photographic safaris. Reporting to the Ecological Trustee, the Ecologist / Farm Manager will lead a team of seven and oversee habitat management, infrastructure, wildlife matters and operational compliance. Gravel road maintenance is central to the daily work, alongside fire and water management, erosion control, invasive plant control and stakeholder coordination. This is a practical field role requiring independent judgement, emotional intelligence and a calm, tactful approach. ???????????? A degree or diploma in ecology, game farm management or a related field, or a strong record in a senior research role. At least four years’ experience in game farm, reserve or ecological management. Practical knowledge of gravel road maintenance, wildlife husbandry and the daily management of a property in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve. Hands-on experience in fire and water management, erosion control, invasive species control and ecological monitoring. Experience managing infrastructure, equipment, staff and contractors, with sound administration and reporting skills. High emotional intelligence, strong communication and leadership skills, and the ability to manage competing stakeholder priorities with tact. A valid driver’s licence and firearm licence, and own suitable firearm. Self-motivated; organised and reliable, with the ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure. Willingness to live on the property and be available 24/7 for relevant matters. No pets are permitted. ?????? – Up to R60,000 per month, with the full package to be discussed based on experience and qualifications. ???????? – Two-bedroom, two-bathroom house, work vehicle, laptop and provident fund.
