SENIOR INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

Location: Roodepoort, Gauteng

Reporting To: Supervisor – Instrumentation Services
Salary: R40,000 – R50,000 CTC per month

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, calibration and testing of industrial instrumentation used across level, flow, pressure, temperature and analytical applications. The role will also involve customer site support, fault finding, repair quality control, technical reporting and assisting with quotations.

This position requires a technically strong individual who can work independently in the field, provide professional customer service and develop the capability to repair increasingly complex instrumentation and process control equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily instrumentation repairs, customer call-outs and breakdown support.

• Carry out routine, breakdown and shutdown maintenance activities.

• Install, test, configure and calibrate industrial instrumentation.

• Perform setup and calibration on Rosemount, Micro Motion, Brooks, Flexim and PST instrumentation.

• Diagnose faults and troubleshoot process control and instrumentation equipment.

• Complete physical repairs and calibration of instrumentation products.

• Conduct quality inspections on completed repairs to ensure equipment meets required standards.

• Assist with the preparation of technical quotations where required.

• Maintain accurate records of work performed and prepare detailed service reports.

• Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams to ensure a professional service experience.

• Maintain current knowledge of products, technologies and instrumentation developments.

• Provide professional customer support and work towards achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.

• Travel to customer sites throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries as required.

• Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer and support to Junior Technicians.

• Develop the skills required to diagnose and repair more advanced instrumentation and control equipment.

• Gain exposure to and progressively take responsibility for complex equipment, including:

  • Analytical gas analysers and sample systems

  • Tank gauging systems

  • Custody transfer equipment

• Follow all relevant company procedures, quality requirements and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric.

• Instrumentation Trade Test.

• N6 qualification, preferably including Process Instrumentation.

• N4 is the minimum requirement where applicable.

Experience

• Completed instrumentation apprenticeship training, including practical workplace exposure.

• Experience in applied instrumentation service solutions.

• Proven experience working directly with customers in an instrumentation or technical service environment.

• Practical experience with instrumentation installation, calibration, maintenance, repairs and fault finding.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

• Industrial instrumentation and process measurement.

• Level, flow, pressure and temperature instrumentation.

• Analytical instrumentation and process control equipment.

• Calibration, testing and fault diagnosis.

• Exposure to Rosemount, Micro Motion, Brooks, Flexim and PST products.

• Ability to interpret technical information and diagnose equipment faults.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Good analytical and problem-solving ability.

• Ability to execute technical tasks accurately and efficiently.

• Valid driver's licence.

• Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally where required.
