Job Summary
Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an experienced and hands-on Head of Maintenance for a luxury private reserve in the Northern Cape. This senior role is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all lodge infrastructure, utilities, vehicles and technical systems. The successful candidate will lead the maintenance team, manage projects and ensure the reserve operates efficiently, safely and sustainably within a remote, off-grid environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance across guest areas, staff accommodation and reserve facilities Manage electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration and general building systems Maintain solar systems, generators, boreholes, pumps, water purification and waste systems Oversee the maintenance of game viewers, 4x4s, tractors, machinery and technical equipment Coordinate infrastructure upgrades, renovations and civil works Lead; train and manage a multi-skilled maintenance team Manage contractors, suppliers, budgets, procurement and stock controls Maintain asset registers, service schedules and maintenance records Ensure compliance with health, safety, legal and environmental standards Work closely with conservation and operations teams to improve energy and water efficiency Respond to technical emergencies and minimise disruption to lodge operations Requirements Relevant qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, or a related field At least seven years’ experience in a senior maintenance, engineering or facilities role Previous experience within a luxury lodge, private reserve, eco-resort or remote operation Strong knowledge of off-grid systems, including solar power, generators, water and waste management Proven project management, budgeting and team leadership experience Strong technical, organisational and problem-solving abilities Valid driver’s licence Comfortable living and working in a remote environment Willingness to work flexible hours and assist with emergencies The ideal candidate will be proactive, practical and resilient, with a strong commitment to sustainability, conservation and maintaining exceptional lodge standards.
