Location: Wadeville / Heidelberg, Gauteng

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Minisub Designer to join their Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete mechanical design of miniature substations and LV panels, supporting projects from tender stage through to manufacture and testing.

This role requires strong technical expertise in miniature substations, transformers, and heavy current electrical equipment, combined with the ability to interpret customer specifications, optimise designs, and provide technical support across the business.

Duties include:

• Design miniature substations, LV panels, and associated equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical calculations and prepare technical documentation.
• Interpret customer specifications and provide technical support for tenders and projects.
• Optimise designs for cost, manufacturability, and performance.
• Conduct strip-and-quote assessments, inspections, and failure investigations on repair units.
• Support manufacturing, purchasing, sales, contract administration, and quality departments.
• Maintain design databases and technical standards.
• Coordinate product quality inspections and certification activities.
• Provide technical support, training, and mentorship to engineering personnel.
• Represent the company in technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and industry bodies.

Minimum Requirements

• BTech Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in miniature substation, LV panel, or transformer design.
• Minimum 7 years' post-graduate experience within the electrical heavy current or high-voltage industry.
• Strong knowledge of transformer and miniature substation design, manufacturing, and testing processes.
• Advanced AutoCAD experience (SolidWorks advantageous).
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP or Syspro.
• Valid driver's licence.
