Job Summary
The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for the full bookkeeping function across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role requires a mature, proactive, and highly dynamic individual with strong analytical capabilities and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-function bookkeeping across multiple companies and jurisdictions
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, journals, and reconciliations
- Handle multi-currency transactions, foreign exchange adjustments, and reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including income statements and balance sheets
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions across all entities
- Perform bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with South African financial regulations and international standards where applicable
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory requirements
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and external stakeholders
- Monitor and improve internal financial controls and processes
- Support senior management with financial insights and reporting
- Oversee payroll inputs and ensure accuracy in financial integration
- Manage financial systems and ensure data integrity across platforms
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 8–12 years’ experience in a senior bookkeeping or similar role
- Proven experience working in a multi-company and multi-currency environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with VAT, SARS compliance, and statutory submissions
