JUNIOR CIVIL / STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

Our client is seeking a Junior Civil / Structural Engineer with approximately 6–8 years’ relevant experience to join their team on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in structural design, with the ability to independently manage and effectively run projects from inception through to completion. Exposure to a variety of project types, particularly residential, commercial and industrial developments, will be highly advantageous.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• BEng Civil Engineering or BSc Civil Engineering degree.

• 6–8 years’ relevant engineering experience.

• Strong focus or specialisation in Structural Engineering / Structural Design.

• Proven experience in managing and running projects effectively and independently.

• Experience working across a variety of project types, including:

  • Residential developments

  • Commercial buildings

  • Industrial projects

• Strong technical understanding of civil and structural engineering principles.

• Experience with structural design, analysis and engineering calculations.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

• Experience coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.

• Strong project management and organisational skills.

• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Professional registration with ECSA, or progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and coordinate assigned engineering projects from design through to completion.

• Perform structural design, analysis and engineering calculations.

• Prepare and review technical drawings, reports and specifications.

• Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards.

• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants.

• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support where required.

• Identify and resolve technical and design-related challenges.

• Coordinate project deliverables and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

• Assist with project planning, cost considerations and resource requirements.

• Take ownership of projects and ensure effective execution from inception to completion.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong and motivated Civil Engineer who has developed solid experience in structural design and is ready to take greater ownership of projects.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently, managing deadlines and engaging directly with clients and project stakeholders. A broad project portfolio covering residential, commercial and industrial work would be highly advantageous.
