We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and to promote a strong safety culture across our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving HSE standards across production, warehousing, and distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities Compliance & Legislation
Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations, including OHSA and industry-specific requirements.
Stay up to date with changes in legislation and update internal policies, procedures, and practices accordingly.
Risk Management
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas.
Identify potential hazards and implement effective preventive and corrective measures.
Training & Awareness
Organize and conduct HSE training sessions and toolbox talks for employees.
Promote health and safety awareness and best practices at all organizational levels.
Incident Management
Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Compile detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Inspections & Reporting
Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained and functional.
Maintain accurate HSE records, including risk assessments, training registers, and inspection reports.
Emergency Preparedness
Oversee emergency preparedness initiatives, including fire drills and first aid readiness.
Ensure emergency exits, signage, and safety equipment are compliant and clearly visible.
Coordination & Liaison
Work closely with department heads to integrate safety into daily operations.
Coordinate with external bodies such as the Department of Labour and environmental agencies during audits and inspections.
Key Requirements Education & Certification
Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or other relevant HSE certification (preferred).
Experience
3–5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Experience within FMCG, manufacturing, or logistics environments is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in MS Office and HSE management systems.
