Our client is a dynamic, fast-growing plant hire company managing a fleet of approximately 100 earthmoving and construction machines seeking a commercially minded, hands-on Financial Controller / Finance Manager to take full ownership of their finance office, tighten internal controls, and optimize the financial performance of their fleet asset lifecycle.
Role Overview
This is not a passive "desk only" accounting role. You will run the entire financial function, translating workshop and fleet realities into clean, strategic financial data. Your primary focus will be managing full-function accounting, optimizing asset return on investment (ROI), tracking machine-level costing (diesel, maintenance, and components), and eliminating revenue leakage through robust internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Lifecycle & Fleet Commercial Management
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Produce accurate monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis for the executive team.
Manage relationship with financial institutions regarding asset finance facilities and fleet scaling debt.
Internal Controls & Leakage Prevention
Implement and enforce strict internal controls around procurement, workshop spares inventory, and field service labour.
Oversee diesel and fuel burn reconciliation to eliminate stock variances and theft.
Supervise the billing process, ensuring telematics/tracker machine hours match invoicing precisely.
Candidate Requirements
Professional Qualification: B.Comm accounting/management, SAIPA (Professional Accountant) or CIMA designation.
Experience: 3+ years of post-article/post-qualification experience, experience in plant hire or logistics will be a great advantage
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Sage and Excel. Experience integrating fleet management/telematics software with accounting systems is a distinct advantage.
Attributes: High emotional intelligence, strong assertive communication skills to manage operational/workshop staff, and a forward-looking, predictive mindset regarding cash flow.
