A leading organisation based in Pietermaritzburg is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join their Finance team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, providing maternity leave cover.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accounting professional who enjoys working with financial reporting, reconciliations, journals, inventory and financial analysis and is able to work independently within tight reporting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the accounting cycle for various business entities and operational areas.

• Prepare bank and general ledger reconciliations.

• Process journals, accruals, provisions, depreciation and intercompany entries.

• Prepare monthly management accounts.

• Assist with quarterly reporting and annual financial statements.

• Prepare and process freight and logistics journals and accruals.

• Reconcile freight and logistics accounts and investigate discrepancies.

• Analyse freight costs against budgets and previous periods.

• Assist with monthly inventory valuations, inventory journals and reconciliations.

• Support bi-annual stock counts and related reconciliations.

• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting and audit purposes.

• Ensure journals and reconciliations are completed accurately and within financial close deadlines.

• Maintain accurate financial records and provide support to the wider Finance team as required.

Minimum Requirements

• BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification.

• 1–3 years' relevant financial accounting experience.

• Experience preparing or working with financial statements and management accounts.

• Sound understanding of accounting principles and IFRS.

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

• Experience with journals, reconciliations, accruals and general ledger accounting.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Advantageous

• Experience within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.

• Experience with inventory accounting / stock reconciliations.

• Exposure to freight, logistics or cost accounting.

• Working knowledge of Oracle.
