Job Summary
A Sandton-based FMCG company is requiring an Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper 1. Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards General Ledger & Financial Reporting: Maintain the GL and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS, ensuring 100% reconciliation to Trial Balance by the 3rd working day of each month. SARS Tax Management: Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, Provisional, and Income Tax returns via eFiling, maintaining a record of zero penalties or interest charges for late or inaccurate submissions. Inventory & Stock Integrity: Execute complex reconciliations between physical stock and system records (Sage/Xero), maintaining a variance of less than 1% across all high-volume product lines. Treasury & Reconciliations: Perform bank, intercompany, and control account reconciliations, ensuring all reconciling items older than 30 days are cleared by month-end. Account Payables & Receivables: Process AR/AP and manage the age analysis to ensure 90% of accounts remain within credit terms while mitigating bad debt risk. Fixed Asset Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and depreciation schedules with zero discrepancies during annual external audits. Statutory Payroll Compliance: Support payroll administration and execute bi-annual EMP501 reconciliations via e@syFile with 100% accuracy against the General Ledger. Financial Advisory: Assist in budgeting and forecasting, providing monthly variance analysis on COGS and GP Margins to identify cost-saving opportunities. Corporate Governance: Liaise with auditors and banks while ensuring the organization remains 100% compliant with FICA and POPIA regulations. 2. Qualifications Education: National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional Registration: Membership with SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA (advantageous). Tax Status: SARS Registered Tax Practitioner (beneficial). 3. Experience Industry Background: Minimum 3–5 years accounting experience within a tax practitioner or FMCG/retail environment. Software Mastery: Expert proficiency in Sage (Evolution/200), Xero, Pastel Partner, Syspro, or SAP. Statutory Systems: Advanced navigation of SARS eFiling and e@syFile. 4. Skills and Competencies Commercial Acumen: Ability to handle high-volume data and translate warehouse operations into financial accuracy. Technical Excellence: Advanced Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Power Query). Deadline Management: Ability to thrive under Sandton corporate pressure and meet strict month-end cycles. Professional Ethics: High level of accuracy, responsibility, and integrity.
