Job Description
This role requires Support Engineers to manage heavy monitoring workloads, ensure adherence to segregation of duties (SOD) policies, and respond promptly to alerts within a banking and finance environment. The role is based in Johannesburg with a hybrid working model, combining office and remote work. The successful candidates provide technical support, maintain system integrity, and contribute to service availability by identifying and resolving incidents efficiently.
Job Duties
- Monitor critical systems and applications continuously to detect incidents and anomalies.
- Respond promptly to alerts generated by monitoring tools, diagnosing and escalating issues as appropriate.
- Enforce segregation of duties policies to ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis to identify underlying problems and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve incidents, minimise downtime, and maintain service levels.
- Maintain detailed documentation of incidents, responses, and resolutions for audit and reporting purposes.
- Assist in the development and improvement of monitoring tools and alerting mechanisms.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required to provide out-of-hours support.
- Support change management processes by validating alert configurations and access controls.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks relevant to banking and finance.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Certifications in system monitoring, IT service management, or security (e.g., ITIL Foundation) are advantageous.
Education
- A minimum of a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience
- At least two years’ experience in technical support or systems monitoring within the banking, financial services, or related sectors.
- Experience working with monitoring tools, alert management, and incident response processes.
- Exposure to segregation of duties controls and compliance requirements in a regulated environment.
- Previous experience in a hybrid work environment is beneficial.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components including servers, networks, databases, and applications.
- Proficient in the use of monitoring and alerting tools and platforms.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce clear documentation.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance in the banking and finance industry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating professionalism and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications related to monitoring, security, or IT service management.
- Experience with specific banking systems or financial applications.
- Knowledge of scripting or automation tools to enhance monitoring efficiency.
- Previous exposure to cloud-based monitoring environments.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid working model requiring attendance at the Johannesburg office as well as remote work.
- Full-time hours with occasional requirement to participate in out-of-hours support or on-call duties.
- Work is predominantly office-based but requires flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workload.
