Job Summary
Our client is a growing financial services firm providing end-to-end support to SMEs, including bookkeeping, payroll, compliance, reporting, and CFO insights. We’re looking for a detail-oriented Accountant (Draftworx + Xero) to join our team and support daily accounting, reconciliations, payroll, and statutory submissions—an excellent opportunity to grow your skills in a supportive environmentResponsibilities
Record and process financial transactions accurately using accounting systems (Xero preferred; Sage, QuickBooks also considered).
Prepare and post general ledger journals, including accruals and adjustments.
Perform reconciliations for bank, supplier, and customer accounts.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Prepare and submit statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201s).
Process monthly payroll: payslips, leave tracking, payroll journals, statutory submissions (EMP501s).
Maintain employee and payroll records; resolve payroll queries.
Reconcile payroll control accounts and allocate payroll costs accurately.
Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
Support audit preparation and respond to auditor queries.
File and maintain accurate financial and supporting documentation.
Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls.
Requirements
National Diploma or BCom in Accounting (or currently studying).
1–2 years’ experience in a similar accounting role (internship or articles considered).
Proficiency in Draftworx and Xero (cashbook to trial balance, management reporting, budgeting, accruals, reconciliations).
Experience with accounting and payroll software (Xero, Sage, SimplePay, or similar).
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and solid computer literacy.
Understanding of South African tax and payroll legislation.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and time management.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
