Internal Accountant – Financial, Bookkeeping & Administrative Services
Reports To: Director / Senior Management
Location: Morningside Durban – On-site | Full-Time
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to provide financial, bookkeeping, payroll, and administrative support across its three divisions. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records, ensure statutory compliance, assist with management reporting, and support basic HR and payroll functions. This role will utilise company systems including Xero for accounting and Simple Pay for payroll and HR administration.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records for the companies four divisions.
- Bookkeeping including recording receipts, payments, and client invoices.
- Process and pay third-party supplier invoices.
- Prepare management accounts to support business decision-making.
2. Statutory Compliance
- Prepare statutory filings (excluding accounts, corporation tax returns, and self-assessment) and assist external accountants with such filings .
- Prepare statutory filings .
- Prepare VAT returns .
3. Payroll & HR Administration
- Process payroll , and using Simple Pay or company-approved systems.
- Support basic HR administration, including onboarding, record-keeping, and leave tracking.
4. Software & Systems
- Use Xero for accounting and Simple Pay for payroll and HR administration.
- Assist with implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of company financial systems.
5. Ad Hoc Duties
- Provide administrative and financial support to the Director and senior management as required.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Proven experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll administration, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of UK statutory compliance, VAT, and payroll processes.
- Experience with Xero and Simple Pay software.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Discretion and integrity in handling confidential information.
Desirable:
- Experience in multi-entity accounting (Legal, Property, international branches).
- Knowledge of South African statutory compliance and payroll.
- Exposure to assisting external accountants with statutory filings.
- Experience preparing management accounts.
Qualifications:
- Accounting, finance, or business administration qualification (ACCA, CIMA, AAT, or equivalent) preferred.
- HR or payroll certification desirable.
