Job Summary
Summary of Duties: Supervise and manage the safe and efficient operation of the boiler house, compressors, river pumps and services staff. Ensure all services equipment is maintained to an optimal standard. 2: Main Duties: This is a more detailed definition of the Summery of Duties. Ensure planned maintenance schedules are carried out as instructed, and where necessary assistance given to the artisan or artisans responsible for carrying out the tasks. Manage the Boiler Attendants and Boiler Fireman in their duties in the running of the boiler house. Carry out respective plant checks to ensure artisans are complying with schedules as instructed. Attend to breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs in the shortest possible time. Manage the services and repairs to all mechanical equipment in the services department. Accurately record all work done on job cards or on planned maintenance schedules. Report all serious defects and/or defects which could not be repaired, to the Section Foreman or the Engineering Manager. Carry out safety inspections on equipment and plant as instructed. Undertake installation and modification of equipment and plant as instructed. Undertake any reasonable request of the Section Foreman or Engineering Manager. Standby cover. Ensure production is maintained as best as possible. 4: Job Requirements 4.1 Education Minimum N2 in a mechanical field Recognized trade test in Fitting/Fitting & Turning 4.2 Experience 5 years fitting experience in heavy machinery. Coal fired boilers, 500Cfm to 1000Cfm compressors, Centrifugal and piston type water pumps. Preferred experience in a charge hand or foreman position 4.3 Knowledge and Skills Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanical equipment used in the industry Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanical drives, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, water and steam reticulation To be able to work under pressure with breakdowns To be practically inclined and can work with hands and tools Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings Ability to work accurately, neatly, and efficiently Ability to carry out fabrication work, (Welding, grinding, and cutting) Good communication skills with management and fellow employees Proficiency in MS Office 4.4 Languages English 4.5 Work Contacts (internal, external, written, oral) Engineering Manager Engineering Foreman 4.7 How does the Superior control the work?
