Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is seeking a dedicated and analytical Systems Engineer to develop, maintain, and broaden the company's information technology and business application systems. Operating primarily within a surface office environment, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in aligning departmental IS needs with technological direction, ensuring full system security, and managing technical aspects across internal operations and external suppliers. The position demands a resilient professional capable of navigating complex technical environments while strictly adhering to the Mine Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe workspace for all. Minimum Requirements To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria: Education: Grade 12 (NQF 4). Experience: 3–5 years of relevant IT experience OR a tertiary qualification in Information Systems Technology. Business Experience: 2–3 years of relevant business experience pertinent to the business systems supported. Certifications: ITIL certification and relevant business applications training pertinent to the systems supported. Licensing & Medical: A valid Code B driver’s license and a valid Medical Certificate of Fitness. Language: Proficiency in English. Key Characteristics: Self-starter (internal locus of control), reliable, ethical, and able to cope with a highly demanding, high-volume workload under pressure. Job Description Summary The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the overarching health, optimization, and security of Harmony’s technical application ecosystem. Key accountabilities include: System Engineering & Maintenance: Install, upgrade, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware; evaluate, test, and program business application systems while translating business requirements into technical execution. Operations & Business Support: Interface directly with operations to define system changes, map flowcharts/processes, build documentation, and assist with testing scenarios, problem diagnostics, and training material. Security & Access Control: Manage user access profiles, perform system security analyses, and conduct quarterly user access and password audits to ensure complete data security and audit alignment. Supplier & Trend Management: Manage day-to-day supplier interfaces, drive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident resolution, and track business-crucial transaction statistics for fault-finding and trend analysis. Health, Safety & Governance: Maintain strict compliance with IS Governance frameworks and apply recognized work and safety standards to eliminate workspace incidents, achieving a target of zero harm.
