Job Summary
The role ensures structural integrity, dam safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with corporate tailings management standards. It plays a critical role in safe tailings deposition, water management, and risk mitigation across all phases of the TSF lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
TSF Engineering & Dam Safety:
- Support TSF design implementation, construction sequencing, and staging plans.
- Monitor embankment construction, dam raises, liner installation, and drainage systems.
- Ensure compliance with design criteria, OMS (Operation, Maintenance & Surveillance) Manual, and GISTM requirements.
- Conduct stability assessments, seepage analysis, and rehabilitation planning.
- Participate in Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB) meetings, dam safety inspections, and technical reviews.
Construction & Operations:
- Supervise TSF construction activities and ensure adherence to quality control standards.
- Review contractor method statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Develop tailings deposition strategies for dry and wet ponds.
- Monitor tailings deposition, decant systems, seepage recovery, and freeboard compliance.
- Oversee geotechnical investigations.
Instrumentation, Monitoring & Reporting:
- Manage TSF instrumentation systems including piezometers, survey monitoring, and water balance systems.
- Analyze monitoring data (including InSAR) to detect early signs of instability.
Other responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory permits, corporate standards, and tailings management frameworks and prepare reports
- Support external audits, Engineer of Record (EOR) reviews, and independent assessments.
- Participate in risk assessments, failure mode analysis, and consequence classification.
- Support development and maintenance of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).
- Assist in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related discipline
- 4–7 years of experience in TSF design, construction, or operation within mining environments
- Strong understanding of tailings management, dam safety, and geotechnical principles
- Knowledge of tailings deposition systems, embankment construction, and water management
- Familiarity with international standards and guidelines such as: ANCOLD, CDA, ICOLD, GISTM
- Ability to review engineering drawings, technical reports, and construction schedules
- Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills
