Job Summary
What you'll be doing
- Preventative & Corrective Maintenance:
o Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections of electrical panels, MCCs, motors, and wiring.
o Carry out cleaning, tightening, and testing of electrical connections as per OEM and SANS standards.
o Diagnose and resolve electrical faults and equipment failures to reduce plant downtime.
- Operational Support:
o Monitor performance of electrically driven equipment (e.g., pumps, blowers, RO systems).
o Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of new electrical equipment.
o Supervise high-risk electrical tasks requiring permits and isolation procedures.
- Documentation & Reporting:
o Maintain accurate maintenance records, test results, and repair logs.
o Log maintenance data for ISO and internal reporting.
o Recommend improvements or upgrades based on condition monitoring and trends.
o Coordinate with procurement to ensure availability of electrical spares.
- Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Compliance:
o Adhere to site and legal safety protocols, including lock-out procedures.
o Wear required PPE, including mining-specific protective gear.
o Participate in safety inspections and report incidents or hazards immediately.
o Maintain clean, organised, and electrically safe work areas.
What you'll need
- Education:
o Matric (Grade 12).
o Trade Test Certificate (Electrician) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience:
o Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in electrical systems maintenance.
- License & Other Requirements:
o Valid Code B Driver’s License.
o Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
o Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
o Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and participate in standby rotation.
- Technical Skills:
o In depth knowledge of motor, control panels, MCCs, VSDs, transformers, relays, and general low-voltage installations.
o Proficient in electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting using diagnostic tools.
o Experience with PLC systems (basic I/O checks, signal tracing, resets).
o Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and process control equipment.
o Use of testing equipment: multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters.
- Safety & Compliance:
o Adherence to site-specific Health, Safety and Environmental protocols.
o Certifications: Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, Hand and Power Tool Training.
o Knowledge of SANS 10142-1 wiring code.
o Risk assessment and permit-to-work knowledge (electrical isolations, lockout).
