Position: Graduate with Candidate ECSA Registration
Title: Geometric and Drainage Design Graduate Engineer
Location: Cape Town with day a week in Malmsbury Office, or in Malmsbury Office with frequent traveling to Cape Town Office.
A dynamic civil engineering consulting firm with offices located across South Africa. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Graduate Engineer to join our Roads Design team with a focus on Geometric and Stormwater Drainage Design in Malmsbury and Cape town. Position Overview:
As a Graduate Engineer, you will be involved in the design, evaluation, and analysis of various road and related civil infrastructure projects as well as various drainage structures and systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and will work closely with senior engineers to develop skills and expertise in geometric and drainage design.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Horizontal and Vertical Alignment Evaluations and Designs for road projects that may include Route Location Determination.
Develop detailed Cross-Section Designs and perform Superelevation Designs to ensure proper road alignment, slope control and surface drainage.
Engage in Intersection and Interchange Designs for efficient traffic flow.
Perform Visual Condition Assessments of existing ancillary work elements and design Ancillary Works, including guardrails, road signs, and road markings.
Carry out Roadway Modelling using Civil 3D software.
Conduct Hydrological Analyses to determine water flow characteristics.
Perform Hydraulic Capacity Evaluations for existing drainage structures and design the Hydraulic Capacity for bridges, major and lesser culverts, as well as urban stormwater systems.
Develop and implement Road Surface Drainage Designs, including side drains, kerb-and-channel systems, and slotted drains.
Evaluate Surface Flow Depths to ensure the effectiveness of drainage systems.
Prepare and develop Stormwater Management Plans.
Conduct Floodline Delineations to identify potential flood risk areas.
Perform Visual Condition Assessments of existing drainage structures.
Prepare drainage-related input for Reports and Tender Documents, including project specifications, quantities, cost estimates, and design/construction drawings.
Develop proficiency in various software tools, including Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Utility Programs for Drainage, HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, and the Microsoft Office suite.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (a relevant Post graduate degree is advantageous).
Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA, actively working towards PrEng registration.
Understanding of software, preferably AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS and EPA SWMM will be advantageous.
Work Environment:
Office-based with regular field work and site visits
Occasional travel to project sites and client locations
Valid driver’s license required
