Job Summary
Well-established and growing company, involved in the maintenance and provision of equipment to the marine and oil & gas industries, seeks to employ a graduate Mechanical Engineer at their premises near Bothasig.
For the position you would be required to have:
- B. Eng or B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering ESSENTIAL
- 3 – 6 years’ relevant experience, preferably in heavy engineering
- Excellent level of English, both written and verbal.
- Sound understanding of 3D CAD packages, in particular SolidWorks
- Sound understanding of FEA Software, in particular SolidWorks Simulation and/or Abaqus would be advantageous.
- Sound understanding of Engineering Calculations Software, in particular Mathcad, MATLAB or similar would be advantageous.
- Exposure to ASME VIII, API and Class Rules (ABS & DNV) in respect of design and manufacture would be advantageous.
- Sound understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding, precision machining.
Responsibilities would include you to:
- Oversee multiple projects, including your own and provide guidance.
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and technicians.
- Gain a fundamental understanding of the design, operation, inspection and repair of Capital Drilling Equipment as well as all the processes and procedures,
- Conduct in-house design and development, including strength calculations (from first principles) and FEA/Simulation, 3D CAD modelling and drawing using SolidWorks, manufacturing data pack generation (incl. BOM's, QCP's, Works Instructions, Manuals).
- Manage design and development Projects, from inception through to delivery, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Giving expert technical advice to Technicians as well as coaching
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QC policies, procedures, and specifications.
- Detailed reporting and inspection report reviews; regular report and feedback to Management and the Customer on the progress of project.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions; draft new procedures as required.
