Qualified Diesel Mechanic / Technician with Red Seal
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
The company, a leading specialist in heavy-duty automatic transmissions with over 30 years of industry expertise, is seeking a Qualified Diesel Mechanic/Technician to join our team.
Minimum Requirements
- Trade-tested Diesel Mechanic (Merseta Red Seal qualification required)
- 3–5 years relevant experience in diesel mechanics and heavy-duty vehicles
- Proficient communication skills (read, write, and speak) in Afrikaans and English
- Valid driver’s license (Code 10/14 advantageous)
- Own reliable transport
- Good health and physically fit for the role
- Computer literacy (basic/intermediate level) with ability to operate diagnostic equipment
- Must be available immediately
- Reside in Cape Town or immediate surrounding areas
Working Conditions
- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:00
- Trial period: 1–2 weeks (paid), permanent appointment subject to successful completion (if unemployed)
- Standby availability required (24/7) for call-outs and breakdown assistance
- Overtime may be required on short notice
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine vehicle services
- Work collaboratively and assist fellow employees in a team environment
- Remove, strip, and replace transmissions on heavy-duty vehicles
- Conduct fault finding and diagnostics (mechanical and electrical)
- Perform dyno testing and operate diagnostic equipment
- Drive and test vehicles after work has been completed (if in possession of a valid Code 10/14 driver’s license)
- Compile detailed job card reports
- Assist with collection and delivery of parts from customers and suppliers
Remuneration
- Salary is market-related and dependent on qualifications, skills, and experience. (R16K-R26K)
