Job Summary
Job Purpose
The Trainee Technician will be trained in the testing and commissioning of electrical protection systems and SCADA systems within substations and renewable energy facilities. The role involves assisting experienced technicians with equipment testing, configuration of protection relays and communication systems and troubleshooting of electrical control and monitoring systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with testing of primary plant equipment such as transformers, current transformers, voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and ring main units.
- Support the setup and testing of protection relays (IEDs) and upload protection settings.
- Perform functional testing of control plant equipment according to protection design requirements.
- Assist with cable fault locating, testing, and route identification.
- Support configuration and setup of SCADA communication networks, protocols and RTU systems.
- Assist with compiling SCADA signal lists and performing system fault finding.
- Work under supervision to develop skills in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of protection and SCADA systems.
Qualifications
- National Diploma Electrical Engineering
- BTech Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Drivers Licence
- B.Eng Tech Graduate or final year BEng Tech student in Electrical Engineering
