Job Summary
Job Overview:
- To provide an integrated approach to managing the total flow of all material and components through the distribution and storage channels from customer through suppliers and back to the customer. Reporting to the General Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric
- Degree level education within a Managerial or Logistics focused discipline
- 5 +years’ experience in Logistics or supply-chain management in a manufacturing environment (experience in the automotive sector would be advantageous)
Key Responsibilities:
- To manage and develop the sites’ MP&L Department (Materials, Planning and Logistics – including Warehouse and Customer Service)
- To deliver strategic and tactical objectives throughout the function, ensuring an efficient operation through all aspects of the department
- Liaison with other intercompany based operations to ensure that the company annual objectives for improvements and cost reductions are exceeded
- Drive accountability to all areas of the department through the company standard accountability systems
- Using Kaizen and Lean principles ensure delivery is on time and in full through all external and internal customers with key control in these areas:
- BOM integrity
- Production Planning & contingency planning (in line with capacity plans)
- Supplier and materials scheduling
- Supplier and customer interface and visibility
- Stock Control (through classic Kanban systems)
- New product Launch assistance and support
- Through robust analysis ensure that each process can be maximised by simplification and standardisation of each activity
- Through coordinated and cooperative management with all of the links in the supply chain, the target should be eliminating waste, maximising service levels and ensuring delivery of KPI’s (both the company and Customer driven)
- Full budgetary responsibility (creation and control) of all departmental budgets – including manning requirements for the whole function
- Ensuring that all customer requirements are met on time and in full
- Through MP&L team ensure that all materials, packaging and transport is in place to meet customer requirements and the production plan
- Maintain the sites inventory to the required levels each month as dictated by the budget or by central logistic
Key Skills and Expertise:
- Demonstrable experience of managing a logistics function using JIT methods and Kanban controls in a high volume manufacturing environment
- Trained to a Green Belt Six Sigma level
- Experience of leading CI projects and initiatives
- Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools with demonstrable results
- Excellent communication skills at all levels
