Job Summary
This role is suited to a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through to implementation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing tooling, while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and industry requirements. The position involves producing detailed technical documentation, conducting testing and analysis, supporting product improvements, and managing design risks throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the engineer will contribute to project delivery, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives, while also providing technical guidance to junior team members and supporting the development of innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc Engineering) – Essential
- NQF Level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent – Required
- Master’s Degree in Engineering – Advantageous and may be considered towards relevant experience
Job Experience & Skills Required:
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies.
- Prepare engineering drawings, technical documentation, and specifications.
- Support product development activities, including prototyping and testing.
- Design and improve manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids.
- Conduct engineering analyses to ensure product performance and reliability.
- Participate in design reviews and implement improvements where required.
- Assist with troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and project teams.
- Manage assigned engineering projects and deliver work within agreed timelines.
- Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior team members.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and quality requirements.
