Ensure food safety and quality excellence in a dynamic food manufacturing environment by leading our client’s Quality Assurance initiatives. This key role offers the opportunity to impact product integrity, compliance, and customer satisfaction through strategic leadership and system oversight.
Duties:
Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) and Food Safety Management System in compliance with HACCP, ISO 22000, and FSSC 22000 standards.
Act as HACCP Team Leader, overseeing hazard analyses, validation, and verification processes.
Maintain documentation including SOPs, policies, work instructions, and records, ensuring effective document control.
Drive risk assessments, facilitate risk mitigation, and lead internal, GMP, hygiene, and system audits.
Prepare the site for external audits by certification bodies, regulatory authorities, and customers, serving as the primary contact during inspections.
Manage findings, root cause analyses, CAPAs, and close-out procedures.
Monitor continuous compliance through trend analysis, KPIs, and management reviews.
Identify system gaps and lead ongoing improvement initiatives, using quality data to prevent issues.
Establish and oversee supplier approval and monitoring programs, ensuring raw materials and services meet safety and quality standards.
Manage change control procedures related to products, processes, equipment, and suppliers, ensuring documentation is maintained.
Develop and uphold a training framework to promote a strong food safety culture across all levels.
Lead, guide, and develop the QA team, fostering accountability and high performance.
Collaborate with Production, Procurement, Supply Chain, and HR to ensure alignment of quality systems.
Handle customer quality requirements, complaints, and regulatory inspections effectively.
Support traceability, recall, and mock recall activities to ensure product safety.
Requirements:
Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related field.
Formal training in HACCP and food safety management systems.
5 to 8 years of experience in food manufacturing quality assurance.
Proven skills in building, maintaining, and auditing quality systems.
Experience leading external audits and regulatory inspections.
Strong understanding of GMP, assessment, IT management, GIS, and data analysis.
Familiarity with the following:
Food safety legislation and standards in South Africa.
Supplier qualification and monitoring.
Change control procedures and documentation.
