Job Summary
Our client is seeking to employ a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to join their manufacturing facility based in Heidelberg., Gauteng. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Fire Prevention and Firefighting certification.
- Relevant HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or SAMTRAC (advantageous).
- Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in a manufacturing or similar production environment.
- Sound technical knowledge of OHS legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Working knowledge of risk management, HACCP, and related legislation.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational ability.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance:

- Implement and enforce HSE policies, procedures, and standards across the plant.
- Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support certification and compliance programmes such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Risk Management and Auditing:

- Conduct routine inspections, audits, SHE meetings, and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, permits, inspection records, and training files.
Incident Management and Reporting:

- Lead incident and accident investigations.
- Compile detailed reports including root cause analysis and preventative recommendations.
Training and Safety Culture:

- Deliver HSE training sessions, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees and contractors.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the site’s safety culture.
Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Management:

- Support emergency preparedness programmes, drills, and response coordination.
- Ensure proper waste management and environmental protection practices.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors, and external stakeholders when required.
