Regional Accountant (Property / Portfolio Finance)

About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Regional Accountant to take ownership of financial operations within a property portfolio environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records,
managing reporting processes, and supporting operational teams while ensuring
compliance with IFRS and strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial and Accounting Management
Maintain accurate and complete general ledgers
Perform monthly reconciliations (general ledger, bank, fixed assets, VAT, and
clearing accounts)
Prepare and submit VAT returns via eFiling
Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, including depreciation
Prepare monthly journals, accruals, and financial reports
Compile financial packs, cash flows, and supporting schedules
Prepare financial statements in accordance with IFRS
Process tenant deposit refunds and commission calculations
Review and approve invoices and overhead expenses
Act as an EFT signatory and oversee cashbook integrity
Reporting and Compliance
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for stakeholders
Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries
Identify control weaknesses and implement improvements
Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory
requirements
Operational Support
Partner with property managers on finance-related matters
Provide insights into financial performance across portfolios
Resolve financial queries and assist with system-related issues
Assist with budgeting processes and system uploads
Team Management
Supervise Creditors and Cashbook Administrators
Support and guide the Assistant Accountant
Manage team performance and ensure deadlines are met
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Matric (essential)
BCom Degree in Accounting (essential)
Honours degree advantageous
Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting role
Strong experience in preparing financial statements in accordance with IFRS
Audit exposure advantageous
Property industry experience preferred
Technical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel
Experience with accounting systems (e.g. Great Plains or similar)
Strong understanding of financial processes and controls
