Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead and implement Health, Safety, Environmental, and Social (HSES) standards on a large-scale renewable energy project. The ideal candidate must hold a valid SACPCMP registration as a Construction
Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) and have a strong track record managing HSES functions on high-risk engineering projects. This role requires a proactive leader with deep knowledge of local legislation, international standards, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage all on-site HSES functions for the project.
• Ensure compliance with South African HSE regulations and international standards (IFC, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
• Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific HSES plans, procedures, and risk assessments.
• Monitor, enforce, and continuously improve safety protocols.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation measures proactively.
• Provide training, toolbox talks, coaching, and ongoing support to site teams.
• Conduct regular safety audits, site inspections, and incident investigations.
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure a safe work environment.
• Prepare and present HSES performance reports, incident analyses, and corrective actions to management.
Minimum Requirements
• Relevant academic qualification in HSE or equivalent.
• Valid SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM).
• NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, or other relevant professional HSE certifications.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an HSE Manager on high-risk projects (power, photovoltaic, substation, transmission line, or similar).
• Proven site-based HSE management experience on engineering or construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of South African HSE legislation and site management requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Strong analytical and report-writing capabilities.
• Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary project environments.
Additional Requirements
• Must be available to work on-site for the full 17-month project duration.
• Immediate availability preferred.
