Job Summary
Founded in 2020, Groenewald Agri is a dynamic family-operated fruit farming business producing high-quality apples and pears for export to over 40 international markets. Situated between Villiersdorp and Riviersonderend in the Western Cape’s prime fruit-growing region, the company has grown from one farm to five productive units. With continued expansion and a strong focus on orchard performance and quality standards, Groenewald Agri is looking to appoint an experienced Workshop Mechanic to strengthen the workshop team.
The incumbent assists with workshop operations while actively participating in repair and maintenance work across various sites / farms as required. This role includes repair and maintenance tasks while managing inventory and equipment maintaining smooth workflow within the workshop.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on vehicles, equipment and infrastructure as assigned
- Diagnose mechanical faults accurately and report findings, required parts and estimated repair time
- Complete all tasks efficiently and within set deadlines, following workshop priorities
- Follow job cards precisely, ensuring all work performed, parts used and time spent are accurately recorded
- Report progress, delays or additional issues to the workshop manager promptly
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize breakdowns
- Ensure all repairs meet quality and safety standards before handing equipment back into operation
- Use tools and equipment correctly and safely, ensuring proper care and storage after use
- Report damaged, faulty or missing tools and equipment
- Assist in maintaining workshop cleanliness, organisation and safety standards
- Follow all health and safety procedures and company policies
- Support stock control by notifying the manager of required parts and low stock levels
- Assist with receiving and checking parts or materials when needed
- Work collaboratively with other team members to complete tasks efficiently
- Be available to respond to urgent or breakdown repairs when required
- Continuously improve skills and stay up-to-date with mechanical best practices and training opportunities
Requirements:
- 1–2 years’ experience in a workshop or technical environment
- Minimum education: Grade 10 (higher qualifications beneficial)
- Relevant technical qualification or trade certification (advantageous)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical repairs, maintenance and vehicle servicing
- Solid understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of workshop equipment, machinery and parts management
- Agricultural sector experience (advantageous)
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability
- Good planning, organisation and time management skills
- Ability to train, mentor and develop staff
- Solution-oriented and practical approach to challenges
