Job Summary
We are looking for a Gardener to install and maintain the flowers, trees and green spaces on Delaire Graff Estate and ensure that the gardens and green spaces are always healthy and beautiful.
Main responsibilities:
Responsibilities include installing and maintaining seasonal plants to ensure attractive, well-maintained landscaped areas. The role involves mowing, trimming, fertilising, mulching, edging, and weeding gardens and green spaces, as well as pruning trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and appearance. The incumbent is responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of gardening equipment and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. Duties also include planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting produce within the greenhouse, ensuring optimal growing conditions and crop health. The role requires working knowledge of irrigation systems, including their operation, monitoring, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring plant health, identifying and addressing pest-related issues, and ensuring gardens, pathways, greenhouse areas, and surrounding green spaces are kept clean, tidy, and free of debris and litter at all times.
Main requirements:
· Grade 12 & preferably 2 years’ previous experience as a Gardener;
· Experience with plumbing will be advantageous;
· Familiarity with landscaping design principles;
· Extensive knowledge of regional plant life;
· Working knowledge of basic irrigation systems and their maintenance;
· Knowledge of local pests and appropriate control methods;
· Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilisers;
· Understanding of health and safety regulations applicable to landscaping and gardening activities;
· Ability to lift and carry heavy objects & to remain on your feet for extended periods of time.
