Mirna Butler Recruitment is recruiting for our client, a progressive and well-established agricultural enterprise located near Perth, Western Australia. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to manage a large-scale merino sheep operation in a hands-on, autonomous role.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the absentee farm owners, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a 20,000 DSE merino enterprise. The farm joins 8,000 ewes in an 18-micron merino flock, with a focus on producing high-performing flock ewes and managing a top-tier ASBV-rated, dual-purpose merino ram nucleus flock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all animal husbandry using modern handling equipment
- Plan and manage rotational grazing and pasture production
- Develop and manage feed budgets, including confinement feeding
- Drive productivity metrics such as lamb turn-off per ewe per hectare
- Maintain ZQ accreditation through accurate stock records
- Conduct general farm maintenance, fencing, and equipment servicing
- Contribute to a positive and professional workplace culture
Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience in large-scale, high-rainfall sheep enterprises
- Strong understanding of rotational grazing, feed budgeting, and confinement feeding
- Familiarity with Lifetime Ewe Management principles
- Proficiency in livestock EiD data collection and farm management software
- Commitment to WHS practices and team development
- Appreciation for land management, sustainability, and farm aesthetics
- Experience with pasture renovation and fodder conservation
- Operation of large seeding equipment is advantageous
Qualifications:
- Tertiary or post-secondary qualifications in Agriculture or Farm Management are highly regarded
Remuneration:
- Starting salary: AUD $130,000 per annum
- Family accommodation (3-bedroom home)
- Diesel work vehicle provided
