Job Summary
The General Laborer & Metal Polisher performs physical general labor tasks, assisting skilled trades, and is specifically responsible for grinding, sanding, and polishing metal parts to meet aesthetic and quality specifications.
Primary Responsibilities
I. Metal Polishing and Finishing (Specialized)
Grinding & Deburring: Operate hand-held and stationary grinders, sanders, and other tools to remove weld spatter, burrs, sharp edges, and excess material from fabricated metal parts (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, brass).
Surface Refinement: Progressively use different abrasive media and polishing compounds (e.g., buffing wheels, rouges) to smooth and polish metal surfaces to achieve required finishes (e.g., matte, brushed, mirror/high-luster).
Quality Inspection: Visually inspect all finished parts for defects, ensuring surfaces are flawless, consistent, and meet precise aesthetic and dimensional requirements specified in blueprints or work orders.
Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and properly store all polishing tools, equipment, and workstations, ensuring optimal functionality and a high standard of cleanliness to prevent cross-contamination of finishes.
General Labor and Shop Support
Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods using appropriate equipment (pallet jacks, trolleys, hoists) while ensuring safe handling and preventing damage to finished surfaces.
