Job description
A spray painter prepares surfaces, mixes paints to the correct color and consistency, and applies coatings evenly using spray guns and related equipment. The role requires attention to detail to achieve a smooth, high-quality finish while following safety procedures and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, masking, filling, and priming as needed.
- Mix paints and coatings according to specifications, including matching colors and adjusting thickness.
- Operate spray painting equipment such as spray guns, compressors, and drying tools.
- Apply paint or protective coatings evenly to metal, wood, plastic, or other surfaces.
- Inspect finished work for defects like runs, uneven coverage, or incorrect color.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning spray guns, checking hoses, and ensuring tools work properly.
- Follow safety procedures including use of masks, gloves, goggles, and ventilation systems.
- Keep the work area clean and dispose of chemicals and materials properly.
- Read job sheets or work instructions to meet customer or production requirements.
Skills and requirements
- Knowledge of paint types, coatings, and finishing techniques
