Job Summary
Our client is seeking to employ an experienced General Manager to lead operations within their retail and logistics division.
This role requires a highly skilled professional with strong leadership, commercial acumen, and operational expertise to manage a multi-faceted facility.
Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 (minimum)
- Diploma or Degree in Business Management, Retail Management, Logistics, Operations, or related field
- Additional certifications in Health & Safety, Fuel & Retail Operations, Facilities Management, or Finance (advantageous)
- Minimum 10 years’ management experience in:
- Retail petroleum industry
- Service station and truck stop facility operations
- Retail or convenience store operations
- Logistics, transport depot, or fleet yard operations
- Proven experience in staff leadership, financial control, compliance, and operations management
- Knowledge of POS systems, fuel systems, security systems, and reporting platforms
- Experience with WinBranch, Namos, and SAP Retail systems
- Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills
- Strong knowledge of labour laws and MIBCO requirements
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and emergencies
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
Responsibilities:
Operational, Financial and Commercial Management
- Oversee daily operations across fuel, retail, food services, truck parking, and site facilities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including Health and Safety legislation
- Implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure operational readiness, equipment uptime, and service standards
- Manage budgets, expenses, procurement, and financial controls
- Drive revenue growth across all business units
- Oversee cash handling, reconciliations, and audits
- Promote and market the facility to increase usage
People Leadership
- Lead recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and MIBCO agreements
- Manage union relationships (NUM)
- Maintain a fair, safe, and inclusive workplace
Stakeholder ad Customer Management
- Engage with customers, suppliers, fleet operators, and service providers
- Ensure excellent customer service and resolve complaints within 24 hours
- Liaise with local and national authorities
Stock Management
- Oversee stock ordering, receiving, rotation, and stock takes
- Manage shrinkage and resolve discrepancies
Contract, Lease and Franchise Management
- Manage lease agreements and ensure compliance
- Oversee franchise operations and brand standards
- Manage third-party service providers
Systems and Technology Management
- Manage POS, fuel systems, CCTV, access control, and reporting systems
- Ensure compliance with IT and data security policies
Compliance, Safety and Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
- Conduct audits, risk assessments, and emergency planning
- Implement risk mitigation strategies
Integrity and Safeguarding
- Maintain confidentiality of company and client information
- Uphold company policies and professional conduct
- Safeguard all company assets and equipment
