Our client is searching for a Tyre Foreman to join their team in Akasia
Job Purpose
The Tyre Foreman is responsible for overseeing all tyre-related operations within the workshop, including tyre inspections, repairs, replacements, stock management, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role ensures optimal tyre performance and contributes to the reliability and safety of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Tyre Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct and supervise tyre inspections, repairs, retreading, rotations, balancing, and replacements.
- Ensure correct tyre pressure, alignment, and fitment according to manufacturer and company standards.
- Diagnose tyre wear patterns and identify underlying mechanical issues.
- Approve tyres fit for service and remove unsafe tyres from operation.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the tyre team/technicians.
- Allocate daily tasks and ensure high-quality workmanship.
- Conduct training on tyre handling, safety procedures, and best practices.
Stock & Inventory Control
- Manage tyre inventory, including new tyres, casings, and repaired tyres.
- Maintain accurate stock levels and report shortages.
- Record tyre serial numbers, usage history, and scrap analysis.
- Work with suppliers for procurement and warranty claims.
Fleet Management Support
- Conduct tyre checks on trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other fleet vehicles.
- Monitor tyre performance and fuel efficiency impacts.
- Maintain tyre records in fleet management systems.
- Support roadside breakdowns when required.
Compliance, Safety & Reporting
- Enforce health and safety standards within the tyre bay and workshop.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, RTMS, OHS, and legal requirements.
- Investigate tyre-related failures and compile incident reports.
- Submit daily, weekly, and monthly tyre usage and performance reports.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Certificate or relevant training in tyre maintenance (preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in tyre fitting/maintenance for heavy-duty vehicles.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with commercial truck tyres.
- Valid Driver’s License: B or EB (must) / EC (advantage)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of tyre brands, specifications, and application.
- Ability to analyse tyre wear patterns and diagnose root causes.
- Strong leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a high commitment to safety.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Basic computer literacy (Excel, tyre management systems).
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling of heavy tyres.
- Ability to work outdoors, during breakdowns, and in workshop conditions.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 07:00 to 17:00
- Saturday and Sunday: 08:00 to 13:00 (alternating weekends).
- Attending to breakdowns afterhours (emergencies when standby team cannot resolve)
- Monthly site visits.
